Jeg har likt bøkene om Discworld av Terry Pratchett lenge, og egentlig ikke søkt etter noe mer, men det finnes så mye Discworldstæsj, spill og film og i det hele tatt at jeg ble litt overrumplet.
Oppdaget at The colour of magic lå på netflix, måtte jo se den. To lange episoder, og så mange passende skuespillere. Jeg har det med å sette navn på skuespillere etter den første filmen/serien jeg ser dem i, jeg er elendig på ekte navn. Så. I denne har vi Argus Filch, (u)kledelig i lendeklede som Cohen barbaren, Samwise Gamgee som turisten Twoflower, Jack Frost som Rincewind, Tim Curry som den mest slimete, motbydelige og maktsjuke trollmannen jeg har sett ever – Trymon. (Tim Curry er liksom Tim Curry – han er bare jevnt over dritnifs.) Du har Jeremy Irons som the Patrician, og herreminskaper, ingen Patrician kunne vel vært mer perfekt. Apropos perfekt, Christopher føkkings Lee som stemmen til Døden. Ohhhh yeah.
Jeg skulle ønske de hadde hatt mer kroner til CG og sånt, det er ikke top notch alt, men det føles som å komme hjem, likevel, jeg sitter og hviner og utbryter ting, og bare “åh! Der er kofferten!” av ren glede. Virkelig, virkelig verdt tida. Nyt den!
I’ve enjoyed the Discworld novels by Terry Pratchett for a long time, and never really searched for more from that universe, but there are so many games and movies etc, it took me by surprise! I discovered that ‘The colour of magic’ was on netflix and had to watch it. Two long episodes, and so well cast! I have this thing – I tend to remember actors by the first role I see them cast as. So, in this movie/series, we have Argus Filch as Cohen the barbarian in a slightly less than attractive loincloth, Samwise Gamgee as Twoflower the tourist, Jack Frost as Rincewind, Tim Curry as the most slimy, disgusting and power-hungry wizard I’ve ever seen – Trymon. (Tim Curry is Tim Curry, he’s creepy in everything, really.) You’ve got Jeremy Irons as the Patrician, and oh my wooord, he’s the best Patrician I could ever imagine. Speaking of perfection, Christopher effing Lee as the voice of Death. Ohhhhh yeah. Gotta love it!
I wish they’d had more money to spend on CG and whatnot, everything’s not top notch, but it still feels like coming home. I’m constantly yelping excitedly like “It’s the briefcase! Yay!” out of pure joy. Really worth the watch! Enjoy!
Hvis du liker fantasy, tegneserier og denne serien, ser jeg ingen grunn til at du ikke skal lese denne. Og dele den. Jeg mener.. gratis, AWESOME tegnet versjon av boka? Ja takk. Gleder meg til den kommer på papir. Jeg utstår ikke å lese tegneserier på skjerm lenger.
Ja, jo, jeg ser at det er mye sutring om at Logen er for pen, bla bla bla. Føkk det. Joe Aercrombies univers kommer i tegneserieformat. Det er fantastisk. Når den blir film, kommer skuespilleren som spiller Logen til å være altfor pen, tynn, høy, lav, bla bla bla. Det blir sjelden slik man ser det for seg i hodet.
Ringenes Herre er et eksempel. Det er et par steder jeg fnyser, på grunn av castinga. Agent Smith er for Agent Smith. Uuuuansett. Nyt tegneserien, det gjør jeg. Oppdateres mandag, onsdag og fredag.
If you enjoy fantasy, graphic novels and The First Law series, I see no reason for you to not read this. And share it. I mean, a free, AWESOME drawn version of the book? Yes please. Can’t wait till it comes on paper, I don’t like reading comics on a screen anymore..
Yes, I hear there’s a lot of bitching and whining about Logen being too pretty yada yada yada..Fuck that. Joe Abercrombies universe is coming in graphic novel form, that’s fantastic. When it turns into a movie the actor playing Logen will be too pretty, too thin, tall, short etc. Things rarely turn out the way you imagine it in your head. The Lord of the Rings as an example. Because of the casting, I have issues with a few scenes. Agent Smith is just too Agent Smith to fit in. Anyways, enjoy the comic, I know I do.
Jeg har lest Drabant, en tegneserie om det norske taggemiljøet på 90-tallet. Et ukjent miljø for meg, absolutt troverdig syns jeg. Den er ganske kort, lest på en søndagsfrokost, men det kommer visst flere bind.(Oppdatering: her) Illustrasjonene passer historien, og jeg føler jeg lærer noe av etterordet. Definitivt verdt en kikk! Contains spoilers and things from the book. Watch the video and read the book. If you want my two cents without spoilers, well, I loved it. I don’t really read a lot of crime novels, I have three criteria where at least one, or preferably two needs to be (should) be present for me to want to read it.
1) It’s written by an author I already love.
2) Contains a serial killer.
3) Plot or title sounds real effing cool.
This has all three.
I must confess that I haven’t read Crooked little vein yet, so the novel-form Ellis is new to me, but his brilliance isn’t. Quite frankly, I expected no less than brilliance (no pressure, eh) and yet somehow he manages to exceed my expectations.
The hero, Tallow, a disillusioned police man, a detective, and his partner Jim Rosato, answers a random call on the police radio about a naked man with a shotgun. They respond and only Tallow makes it out alive. But one of the shots fired from the guns goes through the wall of an apartment and Tallow, making sure no one inside is wounded or worse, finds something mystifying.
It seems the protagonist, Tallow, has more of the Ellis-sound that we’re (I’m) accustomed to. This is something I recognize from Transmetropolitan, where Spider has the Ellis-sound, (if you haven’t read Transmetropolitan already, go do that. And for shame.) and the Smiler is slicker, smoother, the crooked politician-scum that he is. The Beast wasn’t as slick, but still used less profanity than Spider, for one thing (only just). The Hunter is a character within the book, and he seems to come from a place both beautiful and incredibly primal. I don’t even hear Ellis’ voice in him, which is something unexpected and delightful. And strange. I wonder if this heroes with anti-social behavior and villains with slick-smooth-fitting in behavior is a coincidence or willed. I’ll have to read everything he’s written to know, I guess.
The plot itself is utterly delicious. I couldn’t wait to get my hands on the book, and if you’re not enticed by the plot, try it anyway. The mind of the hunter is like nothing I’ve ever read. Fluent madness, it’s so scary it’s beautiful. The details is Ellis through and through, though, and it shows. Take his description of Tallows breakfast (on page 121-122) for instance, or Bats joyous outburst of coffee. (page 150)
«Fuck me», Bat gasped, «It’s like an agel shat ice cream coffee rainbows in my mouth».
Or the details in a kill, he describes the hunters emotions, the preparations and the mechanics of a kill, down to the bowel disposals of the one being killed.
Bat, a bi-character, a cool dude, a total goofball, comic relief chara perhaps, but he’s also someone you’d love to have as a friend. (At least I would.)
«Flows of shit» , muttered Bat, «I’d go insane, listening to that all day. It’s just a river of ‘Hey, this crazy, disgusting thing just happened, and hey, here’s another one, and another, and another, has your brain caught fire yet?’ It’s like disaster porn or something.» (page 181)
Quite poetic, considering.
Bat stood in the open door and said «I am a crime scene unit detective from the New York City Police Department, you heinous fucking mongoloid, and there is nothing I cannot do.» page 192
(I read this part when people were asleep, but I couldn’t stop myself from loudly going «HAHA!» victoriously.) (Also, how Spider is that? Bat fucking rocks.)
The stories from the police radio seems like stories urging to be told, all rambling pieces of a city broken by it’s own madness.
Gun machine is a book you should read, however many criteria you have to read a book, because it will rock your socks off.
9 out of 10 – although I’m not sure why there’s not 10. Maybe I wanted to read a more expanded ending. (I always do, don’t I.)
I første del av denne, som kan leses her, skrev jeg litt om kickstarter generelt og ting fra forskjellige kategorier.
Først vil jeg ta opp igjen noen av dem jeg så på sist, for å se hvordan det gikk. Den forlatte fornøyelsesparken i Tyskland ble funded med 26,366, altså bare så vidt 1300 dollar over målet. Fyren som ville lage hele Mario level 1 i lego, fikk inn over 7000 dollar, men målet på 26,400 ble ikke nådd. Han som ville til Svalbard, fikk det til, så vidt. Walk your city fikk dobbelt så mye som de ba om. Den ene kunstneren fikk seks ganger så mye som han ba om. Den annerledes læreboka fikk 77 000 og ba om 65. En iPad app gikk ikke gjennom, og oppnådde bare ti prosent av summen. Kunstboka til spillet Katawa Shoujo ba om 750 dollar, og fikk inn 15 500. Ganske imponerende! Glassblåsebilen fikk bare inn halvparten dessverre. Fugleveggen fikk inn dobbelt. Jeg hopper over et par, men f.eks, the order of the stick ba om 57 000. De fikk inn over 1,250 000. Det var noen av spillene som kom ganske godt over, f.eks, Eisenwald, som endte på 83 000, 33 000 mer enn målsummen. Jane Jensen fikk inn over 100 000 mer enn hun ba om, hurra. Tre av filmprosjektene jeg så på fikk også overskudd, blant annet Dust. Av klesprosjektene jeg nevnte sist var det ingen som nådde målsummen. Cooking in heels derimot, fikk inn 9000. Steampunk Holmes gikk nesten selvfølgelig over målsummen. Zombiene og tegneseriene nådde summen, og historien om fingeravtrykket også. Gledelig!
Nå til noen helt nye prosjekter.
Først ut er (selvfølgelig) Dreamfall Chapters som har nådd målsummen på en uke, og som nå har nitten dager på å nå de store målene over det. Det største målet er to millioner, og jeg håper de får det til, for jeg lurer virkelig på hva The Longest Journey Home er..
Fearless er en fotobok som allerede har nådd fem tusen over målsummen, men det ser ut som en viktig bok.
Memoirs of a gigolo er et bokprosjekt om en mannlig eskorte. Skribenten ber om 200 dollar, det er ikke så mye, men når boka allerede i salg som ebok, er det kanskje vanskeligere å få ballen til å rulle?
My gay roommate trenger noen hundre dollar til sin siste episode av webserien sin. Her er pilotepisoden.
Asylum er kickstarteren til de samme som laget Scratches, om noen har spilt det. Det er et skrekkspill, og det ser virkelig snasent ut. Det har bare ti dager igjen, og trenger ikke så mye.
Unengaged: The Anime Convention Movie – virker rimelig interessant, men har bare en backer. Det virker som om et mål på 35 000 er uoppnåelig, men man vet aldri med kickstarter.

This time around I want to revisit some of the projects I wrote about the last time before I present some new ones. The abandoned amusement park in Germany was funded with 26,366, which is just barely 1300 dollar more than its goal. The dude who wanted to make the entire Super Mario level 1 in lego, got over 7000 dollars, but didn’t meet its goal of 26,400. The guy that wanted to go to Svalbard, reached his goal, but only just. Walk your city got twice the amount they asked for. One of the artists got six times as much as he asked for. The graphic textbook got 77 000, while asking for 65. An iPad app didn’t get through and only got ten percent. The artbook for the game Katawa Shoujo asked for 750 dollar, and got 15 500. Pretty impressive! Glassblowingmobile only got to half of their target, while the Birdwall got in twice as much as their target. I’m skipping a few but for instance, the order of the stick asked for 57 000 and got in more than 1,250 000. Some of the games mentioned, for instance Eisenwald, ended up on 83 000, 33 000 more than their target. Jane Jensen got in more than 100 000 more than she asked for on her Moebius project. Three of the movieprojects mentioned all got funded, amongst others Dust. None of the fashionprojects I mentioned last got funded. Cooking in heels on the other hand got 9000. Steampunk Holmes passed its target easily. Zombies and comics all got funded and the history of the fingerprint. Yay!
Now for some new projects.
First off is (of course) Dreamfall Chapters who has reach its target in a week, and now has nineteen days to reach their stretchgoals. The biggest one is The Longest Journey Home at 2 million, and I hope they make it so I find out what it is.
Fearless is a photobook featuring LGBTQ athletes from colleges and high schools. They’ve reached their target, and passed it, but it is an important book.
Memoirs of a gigolo is a bookproject about a male escort, and the writer is asking for two hundred dollars. Not a lot, but when the book is already out as an ebook it’s probably that much harder to get the ball rolling.
My gay roommate needs a few hundred dollars to fund their latest episode of their webseries. Pilot seen below.
Asylum is the kickstarter of the producer of Scratches, if you’ve played it. I’ve bought it but the disc was damaged,so.. It’s a horrorgame and my, it looks juicy. Only ten days left, and they don’t need much more.
Unengaged: The Anime Convention Movie - seems like good fun, only has one other backer than me, and thus seems out of reach, but it’s kickstarter, you never know.

Denne tegneserien jeg har hatt lyst til å lese siden jeg hørte om den, som jeg nevner her. Den er skrevet av Chad Michael Murray (han som spilte i One Tree Hill) og jeg er glad for å si at jeg ikke ble skuffet. (Ihvertfall ikke så veldig.)
Den var nok litt for tynn for min smak, dette universet kunne med fordel utvides med noen tusen sider, (jeg overdriver ikke) men smakebiten vi får er nok til at jeg kommer til å følge nøye med hans forfatterskap fremover.
Tegnestilen er også noe å notere seg. Det er en slags blanding av typisk amerikansk og Sandman-stil. Det store minuset er som sagt at den er kort,men det er en vakker fortelling og jeg vil anbefale den til alle som liker litt urban fantasy/dark fantasy.
Som en liten bonus, et nydelig dikt, skrevet av Murray, og illustrert av J.K. Woodward, som også illustrerer Everlast. (Om teksten på bildet er for liten kan dere klikke her.)
I’ve wanted to read this ever since I heard about it, which I wrote a lil’ blurb about here – (well,it’s just a video t be fair, but hey.) It’s written by former One Tree Hill star Chad Michael Murray, and I’m pleased to say I wasn’t disappointed. (Atleast not very disappointed).
It was a bit too short for my liking, this universe could easily be expanded with a few thousand pages (not exaggerating) but this apetizer is enough for me to keep a close watch on his authorship from now on.
The art is noteworthy too, it’s a mix of typical Americanized comics and a Sandman-esque style. The big drawback is its minute size, but it is a beautiful story, and if you enjoy urban or dark fantasy, this is for you.
As a bonus, a lovely poem, written by mister Murray and illustrated by J.K.Woodward, who also illustrated Everlast. (If it’s hard to read just click here for the original.)

Det blir forfattersamtale, intervju, og litt snacks å bite i. Og ikke minst: Det blir formell åpning av nye ubok.no!
Siden Kristine Tofte skal snakke om Eirabu er det surt å gå glipp av – så derfor bør ikke dere gå glipp av det!

Boka er lettlest, en fortellerstemme på bokmål og en på nynorsk, og binder fantasy og sci-fi sammen på en overbevisende måte. Definitivt en bok verdt å få med seg om man er interessert i fantasy, sci-fi eller ungdomsbøker.
I just came back from a moviedate with my husband, an early birthdaygift. We went to see the Hobbit – an unexpected journey. I’ve tried to avoid spoilers as much as I could and have read no reviews.
I have one negative thing to say about this movie. The other people at the cinema sucked. One spoke in the intro. Several went back and forth, (pee before the movie,nimrods!) and one broke the cardinal sin of movie theaters – not only forgetting to silence or turn off their phone, but ANSWERING IT. I was *this* close to shushing everyone at one point. Not to forget the twats checking facebook mid-movie. I mean come ON.
And there it is. I’ve heard negative comments in passing (well, seen in scrolling, actually, but you know) about it not being true enough to the book. Maybe it wasn’t. It’s been a few years since I read the book – and I was happy with that afterwards. The things I remembered best from the book was like I remembered them, when the dwarves first come to the Shire, and Gollum. The rest – I thought if nothing else, it’s a perfect supplement to the Tolkienverse we know from the Lord of the Rings movies.
I loved it. I held my breath a few times it was exciting and breathtaking and fun and I cannot wait till the next comes out! The fightscenes were a bit hard to find a place to fix my eyes on but that’s not just in this – combat scenes are too swift for me in general.
..and of course the cosplayerpart of me is now of course contemplating not if I should cosplay a dwarf – but which one. I am thinking Thorin Oakenshield would be awesome, but Bombur might be the one I ultimatey choose. Thorins armour would be lots of hard work, there’s no doubt about that. All in all it’s a magnificent piece of film. I can’t WAIT to see Smaug more. The animations and cg and voice of Andy Serkiss, brilliant. And Martin Freeman keeps impressing me in everything he does. The costumers and setmakers need HUGE kudos. For Rivendell especially. I could rant about this for another five paragraphs or so, but I think you get the jist. If you haven’t seen it – do it. I realized afterwards that I’d gotten a slight headache (due to the 3D I guess?) but SO worth it.
